A perfect Sunday: Slavante!

Slavante is an area, also a street , against the eastern slope of Sint-Pietersberg in the Dutch municipality of Maastricht . The area is best known for the Buitengoed Slavante , formerly Casino Slavante , a former outdoor society from 1846. The tavern also includes remnants of a 17th-century monastery, the baroque Sint-Antonius chapel , a vineyard, the Cellars Slavante and the access to the underground limestone quarries Zonneberg and Slavante. South of the tavern used to be the main entrance Three Gates of the Slavante corridor system; just north of it are the cave house De Kluis and the cave house Greetje Blanckers . The elevated area offers a view over the river Maas and part of the Maas valley. There is a jetty for tour boats on the Maas.

The clubhouse building from 1846, which has been preserved in its original state, is a detached one-storey building with a mezzanine on a T-shaped floor plan. The main volume is covered by a hipped roof with Dutch tiles .The building has a hard stone plinth and is completely plastered, with imitation joints in the bottom layer. The symmetrical facade consists of five bays with five patio doors on the ground floor. Here is also a covered terrace under a half-timbered hipped roof, supported by slender cast-iron columns with small capitals.

In the interior, the wooden door frames with frames and gilded ornaments are important. The interior space is completely open and contains no storeys, but against the rear wall is a French balcony in wood with gilded bars and consoles . Stucco ceiling rosettes surround the suspension points of the two chandeliers .
